At ASTERIA MAGAZINE, while we adore Christmas movies, what we love even more is a Christmas movie that’s absolutely captivating. Netflix serves us a thrilling new film you won’t be able to take your eyes off. Get ready for a journey as deadly as it is intriguing, one that will keep you on the edge of your seat for every minute with Carry On.

A Well-Crafted Cast

It’s the co-star duo we didn’t know we needed. Taron Egerton (Kingsman) and Sofia Carson (Purple Hearts) headline Netflix’s newest film. Their collaboration feels strangely familiar, and it works so well that you’ll be left wanting more. With roles like Kingsman and now Carry On, Taron Egerton is on his way to becoming the perfect spy. And as the villain of the day, we get Jason Bateman, who delivers his performance flawlessly.

A Skillfully Told Story

As the title suggests, Carry On centers on Ethan, who would do anything to protect his partner, Nora. Together for several years, Nora surprises Ethan with the news that they’re expecting a baby. Both work at the same airport terminal—she for an airline, and he with TSA. One day, while stationed at baggage control, Ethan discovers an earpiece in a security tray. At that moment, he receives a text: “Put it on, Ethan.”

With the earpiece in, Ethan finds himself communicating with a mysterious man who threatens to kill his loved ones (parents, colleagues, and Nora) unless Ethan allows a bag containing an explosive through security. The man’s knowledge about Ethan’s life is terrifyingly accurate. Determined to stop the terrorist, Ethan does everything in his power to intercept the explosive bag. But he’s up against professionals, and with Nora’s life hanging in the balance, he may not be able to save everyone. The question is: will Ethan choose to save the 250 passengers on the targeted plane or his loved ones?

Asteria’s Verdict on Carry On

This film is absolutely gripping—it’s been a while since we’ve held our breath for so long during a movie. Taron Egerton as Ethan is perfect. The film is brilliantly crafted; you quickly grow attached to the characters, and while not everyone can be saved, the ending is more than satisfying. Twists keep coming, and Ethan’s keen observation skills and ability to adapt to each situation are genuinely impressive. The ending is not only perfect but surprisingly heartwarming for a thriller. Set during the holiday season, this thriller is both chilling and festive.

While Ethan is the undeniable hero of the story, let’s not overlook Nora, who runs dozens of meters in high heels—a true modern-day heroine! On a serious note, love is a central theme of the film, along with devotion and friendship. Family emerges as the most important value in this Christmas thriller.

Already available on Netflix since Friday, December 13, the only thing we ask is that you sit back, relax, and enjoy Carry On. And don’t forget to let us know what you think!
