As you’ve probably seen and we mentioned in our list of treasure-hunting series, the manga everyone is talking about has finally received a TV adaptation, thanks to Netflix. In fact, while some people aren’t fans of anime, it’s still a shame to miss out on this masterpiece. Netflix, granting our wishes, has delivered a first season that is quite original.

The Adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and His Crew

In the first season of One Piece , you get to meet Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. The beginning of the crew on the Going Merry is small but makes a big impact. The interesting part is that, like in the manga, the series quickly delves into the past of each character, explaining why they decide to follow Luffy. However, some details are changed or omitted. We move quickly from one character to the next.

The story in the first season isn’t necessarily bad; in fact, it feels like the perfect series to hook those who had given up on the manga or anime, and it serves as a great introduction for those who aren’t familiar with One Piece.

A Surge in Popularity for One Piece

There are the fans, the loyal followers of One Piece, and then those who didn’t have the patience to watch over 1,122 episodes. Still, thanks to this series, One Piece has managed to gain a surge in popularity (yes, apparently, that was possible), and because of this, Netflix has officially announced a new season coming soon.

The episodes on the streaming platform are long (about an hour), unlike the anime, which has episodes around twenty minutes. Netflix chose to move more quickly and with less depth, meaning that the 60 episodes of the first season of the anime roughly equate to the 8 episodes of Netflix’s first season. This raises the question: what will the second season of Netflix be about, and who will join the Going Merry crew?

Which Characters Are Coming Next in One Piece ?

While we know the Straw Hat crew consists of several characters, we wonder whether Netflix will stick to the order in which they appear in the manga. After Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji, the next character is typically Chopper, the talking reindeer, and this is where our curiosity piques—how will Netflix bring Chopper to life? After that, we should see Nico Robin, Franky, Brook, and Jinbe, but which of these characters will appear on the Going Merry in Season 2 of One Piece?

The Reunion of Luffy and Shanks?

At the end of Season 1 of Netflix’s One Piece, we’re pleasantly surprised to see Shanks alive with his crew. The kicker? He receives the bounty notice for Luffy. The real question is: will Netflix treat us to the reunion of Shanks and Luffy in Season 2, or will we have to wait even longer?

What’s Next for One Piece ?

Well, in the video announcing Season 2, we see Chopper’s hat and antlers, but we’re not sure how they’re going to bring him to life. Season 2 probably won’t come out before the end of 2025, but many rumors are already circulating about a potential Season 3. A number of internet users also believe they spotted Smoker at the end of Season 1 of Netflix’s One Piece. So, we’ll see what Netflix has in store…

The Costumes of Season 1 Were a Success

It wasn’t necessarily a given, but unanimously, the Asteria team believes that the costumes in Season 1 were particularly well done. Whether it’s the little details or from afar, they nailed it. For example, check out Buggy’s nose where you can see the pores, Koby’s glasses that are identical to the anime, or even Arlong, who is unsettling to look at but artistically well done. The only character that hurt our eyes was Kuroobi, though for a Fish-Man, it’s acceptable.

The least we can say is that we’re eagerly awaiting Season 2 of One Piece on Netflix, and as soon as we have more information, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, you can rewatch Season 1 on Netflix right here.

With a heart that beats to the rhythm of distant lands, Ataraxia’s passion for travel is nothing short of ferocious. She is drawn to the unusual, the offbeat, the places where most people don’t think to go. Whether it’s a hidden alley in a foreign city or a forgotten village nestled in the mountains, she finds beauty and meaning in every corner of the world.
