The 3 Most Badass Marvel Heroines That We Can’t Get Enough Of

In the vast universe of Marvel superheroes, several heroines stand out not only for their incredible abilities but also for their compelling stories and the sheer strength of their characters. Here, we celebrate three remarkable women who have left an indelible mark on fans and the Marvel universe alike: Black Widow, Wanda Maximoff (the Scarlet Witch), and Elektra.

1. Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson brilliantly portrays Black Widow, whose real name is Natasha Romanoff, a member of the Avengers. In her standalone film, we learn more about her origins, including the Red Room, the training camp where she was raised, which is still operational. She embarks on a mission with her sister and adoptive parents to destroy the Red Room and its general, Dreykov.

Trained from a young age, she’s a highly skilled athlete: an accomplished ballerina, practitioner of various martial arts, a formidable sharpshooter, and an expert in espionage techniques. She’s one of the few superheroes without supernatural powers, making her an important female figure in the Marvel universe, with each of her appearances being highly appreciated.

2. Wanda – The Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, first appeared in comics in March 1964. Both a mutant and a sorceress, she initially sided with the villains before using her powers for good.

In the cinematic universe, she and her brother Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) are Sokovian enhanced individuals who were part of HYDRA. When Ultron recruits the twins, they follow him until they realize his true goal is to destroy humanity. Refusing to be the cause of this genocide, Wanda and her brother join the Avengers to fight Ultron, who eventually kills Pietro.

Wanda continues her journey with the Avengers and even falls in love with one of them: Vision. However, after Vision’s death, Wanda struggles with her grief and creates a sitcom-like town where she reimagines Vision. Stopped by S.W.O.R.D., she ultimately takes possession of the Darkhold, a malevolent grimoire.

Though Wanda is the antagonist in the latest Doctor Strange movie (which arguably should have been more about her than Doctor Strange), she redeems herself by the end of the film and destroys the grimoire across all multiverses. In addition to her spell-casting skills, Wanda is also very adept at hand-to-hand combat.

3. Elektra

A superheroine in the Marvel universe, Elektra was created by Frank Miller in 1981. She is a contract killer trained by a ninja clan, marking her as an exceptional fighter. Jennifer Garner portrayed Elektra in the 2005 film of the same name.

In the comics, Elektra is a talented athlete with extraordinary abilities, including hypnotizing people and creating illusions. Her incredible speed allows her to blend into the shadows, making her invisible even during the day. She also has low-level telepathic abilities, enabling her to communicate with individuals who have similar mental capacities.

Closely associated with Daredevil in the comics, she appeared in his 2003 film. The assassin can also be seen in the latest Deadpool and Wolverine film directed by Shawn Levy. Elektra is portrayed by Elodie Yung in the Daredevil and The Defenders series.

These three heroines embody the strength, complexity, and resilience that have made them iconic figures in the Marvel universe. Whether through their physical prowess, supernatural abilities, or unyielding spirit, Black Widow, Wanda Maximoff, and Elektra continue to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.

With a heart that beats to the rhythm of distant lands, Ataraxia’s passion for travel is nothing short of ferocious. She is drawn to the unusual, the offbeat, the places where most people don’t think to go. Whether it’s a hidden alley in a foreign city or a forgotten village nestled in the mountains, she finds beauty and meaning in every corner of the world.
