In terms of entertainment, the market is highly competitive. But when it comes to streaming platforms, one platform in particular still dominates: Netflix. Although, in my opinion, Netflix’s content has been declining in quality over recent years, every now and then it surprises us with unmissable gems. That’s precisely the case with Time Cut.

How does a mix of Scream and Back to the Future sound to you? Well, to us, it sounds fantastic! Welcome to 2024, where Madison Bailey takes on the role of Lucy Field. Lucy leads a fairly ordinary life, though she’s far from naive. She even lands an internship with NASA. The problem is, since the tragic murder of her older sister in 2003 under mysterious circumstances, Lucy’s parents have become overly protective, limiting her freedom. Each year, to honor the memory of their lost daughter and sister, the Field family visits the place where Summer was murdered. But this year, an odd sound distracts Lucy, leading her to explore the barn. Upon closer inspection, she finds a strange machine that transports her directly back to 2003, without any understanding of how or why.

Back in 2003, with no idea how to return to 2024, Lucy faces two choices: intervene to prevent the upcoming murders and save her sister, or do nothing. But by changing the past, she risks disrupting the entire future. With the killer never having been caught, can she knowingly let him get away once again? Lucy finds herself in a complex dilemma that could even threaten her own existence.

Time Cut is the must-watch release on Netflix these past few months—a slasher mixed with science fiction, the perfect combo that either makes or breaks it. And this one definitely makes it. Starring Netflix favorites Madison Bailey (Outer Banks), Antonia Gentry (Ginny & Georgia), and Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key), Time Cut is absolutely a film to see. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat until the reveal. Although the film was recently released, it has already sparked a lot of interest among Netflix users who wasted no time in watching it. And the ending, which could have gone in a very different direction, resonates as a classic example of sibling relationships. Honestly, even if some viewers might be disappointed by it, I would have made the same choice. The actors were well-cast, especially Madison and Antonia, who deliver an enjoyable, engaging performance in an entertaining context. It’s the perfect horror movie to watch as a family—not as terrifying as Scream, but still plenty captivating for horror-loving parents.

Beyond the central mystery of identifying the killer and uncovering why he targeted only a few teens without ever striking again, the film is also a huge nostalgic tribute to the 2000s, with its fashion, colors, and social norms that marked an entire generation. And will Lucy find a way back to 2024? Will she change the past? Will she save her sister? Quite possibly at the cost of her own life—if she and her sister survive the killer, her parents might choose to never have a second child, meaning Lucy would no longer exist and would simply vanish.

Time Cut embraces all the hallmarks of both slasher films and time-travel sci-fi. And yet, if you look past the impossibility of such a journey, the explanation is surprisingly plausible; it’s not the most unrealistic film I’ve ever seen.

After a series of flops and uninspired films, I’m glad to finally find one that offers compelling entertainment.

For those who haven’t seen it yet, make some hot chocolate, wrap up in a blanket, and enjoy Netflix’s new slasher. I think a lot of you will love it!

With a heart that beats to the rhythm of distant lands, Ataraxia’s passion for travel is nothing short of ferocious. She is drawn to the unusual, the offbeat, the places where most people don’t think to go. Whether it’s a hidden alley in a foreign city or a forgotten village nestled in the mountains, she finds beauty and meaning in every corner of the world.
