Lara Croft: The Timeless Badass Adventurer

1 min read

Lara Croft is the main character in the video game series “Tomb Raider.” and an absolute badass. Originally, she is presented as an intelligent and athletic archaeologist who does not hesitate to venture into tombs and ruins, even if it means putting her life at risk.

The Rise of Tomb Raider

The video games have generated such enthusiasm that in 2001, a film bearing the protagonist’s likeness was released, “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.” The first cinematic installment representing the game features the stunning Lara Croft, played by the great Angelina Jolie.

Box Office Success Despite Negative Reviews

Despite receiving negative reviews, the film achieved enormous box office success, becoming the first video game adaptation to earn so much money in France and the USA. So much so that in 2003, a sequel was released, and Angelina Jolie reprised the role of the incredible Lara Croft.

The Mysterious Plot

In the film, Lara Croft inherits numerous treasures upon her father’s death. Among these treasures is a mysterious magical clock. Years earlier, her father revealed to her the existence of a secret organization, the Illuminati, which had set out to find a clock whose key opened the doors of time and space. This clock is a sacred triangle that, 5,000 years ago, ensured the victory of the first Illuminati over their enemies. If the triangle were to be reassembled, these distant ancestors would come back to life, and the fate of Humanity would be forever altered.

The Race Against Time

The power of this triangle will reach its peak when three planets align in the sky in a total eclipse that occurs once every 5,000 years. The adventurer has only 48 hours to solve the mystery of the magical triangle and save the world.

From Console to Reboots

Lara Croft first appeared on console in 1996 by Core Design, on PlayStation. It’s a trilogy of games that follows Lara’s increasingly wild adventures. Following these first three games, three more installments were released.

Crystal Dynamics and/or Eidos Montreal have released two reboots of Lara Croft, each consisting of three games. There would ultimately be 12 games in total with the famous archaeologist as the protagonist. The latest game was released in 2018.

The 2018 Film Reboot

In the same year, in March, a new reboot of the “Tomb Raider” film was released. This time played by Alicia Vikander, Lara Croft is the daughter of an eccentric explorer who has been missing for seven years. The rebellious and independent young woman refuses to take over her father’s empire. Convinced that he is not dead, she sets out for the last place her father was seen: the legendary tomb on a mythical island off the coast of Japan. But the journey proves to be extremely perilous, and she will have to face countless enemies and push her own limits to become “Tomb Raider.”

With a heart that beats to the rhythm of distant lands, Ataraxia’s passion for travel is nothing short of ferocious. She is drawn to the unusual, the offbeat, the places where most people don’t think to go. Whether it’s a hidden alley in a foreign city or a forgotten village nestled in the mountains, she finds beauty and meaning in every corner of the world.
