Released in 2024, Nobody Wants This didn’t seem like an obvious choice for me. Initially, I was skeptical after watching the preview that Netflix provided, but it wasn’t until February 2025 that I finally decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, I ended up binge-watching the entire series in just one day! It was the perfect mix of humor, romance, and cultural exploration, and it completely exceeded my expectations.
If you enjoy series that are packed with humor, love, and a blend of different cultures, I’m sure Nobody Wants This is made for you! The show has a way of keeping you hooked with its quirky charm, and you’ll find yourself drawn into the characters’ lives and relationships.

What is it about?
At the heart of the series is Joanne, who, together with her sister, hosts a podcast that focuses on sex and sexual liberation. Noah, on the other hand, is a rabbi, and the two couldn’t seem more different. At first, it appears there’s absolutely nothing that could connect them. However, fate steps in when they meet at a party, and an undeniable chemistry develops between them almost instantly. Despite this attraction, Joanne doesn’t initially realize that Noah is a rabbi, and she’s quite surprised when she discovers his religious role after the connection has already taken hold.
Despite their initial shock, the two can’t seem to stay away from each other—they are drawn to each other like magnets. But their relationship faces many hurdles, especially due to cultural differences. The clash between Joanne’s more liberal lifestyle and Noah’s religious commitments is an ongoing challenge, with each encounter highlighting their contrasting backgrounds. To complicate things further, Noah’s mother and his ex are always lurking around, making it clear they don’t approve of the relationship. They’re determined to see it fail, and they seem to be doing everything in their power to make sure that happens. In the end, though, it might just be that Nobody Wants This —except for Joanne and Noah themselves, who are too in love to be stopped.

Another successful cast for Netflix in Nobody Wants This
The casting in Nobody Wants This is fantastic, featuring a group of talented actors who truly bring their characters to life. Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Tovah Feldshuh all bring something unique to the series, and each actor adds to the humor and emotional depth of the story. The blend of their performances helps create a show that feels fresh and original, with just the right balance of comedy and heart.
At first, the script may seem a bit hit-or-miss, but as the episodes progress, you quickly realize that Netflix’s gamble paid off. Particularly in the case of Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, the chemistry between them is undeniable. Their performances are pitch-perfect, and they have a natural rapport that makes their characters’ connection believable and endearing.
Finally, Jewish Representation:
What I especially appreciated about Nobody Wants This was its portrayal of Jewish culture. As someone who isn’t Jewish, I don’t often see much representation of this religion in pop culture. It’s not something that’s widely explored, so seeing it front and center in the show was refreshing. While I can’t speak to how accurately the religion is represented (since I don’t have that personal experience), I do know that it was enlightening to see Jewish customs, traditions, and even some of the challenges that come with being part of that community. For those unfamiliar with Judaism, the show offers an opportunity to learn more and dive into a different cultural perspective.

This representation is especially important, as it offers viewers a chance to discover something new. The way the series takes on these cultural differences between Joanne and Noah—and how their love for each other challenges societal expectations—was not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. It definitely sparked my own curiosity about Judaism, and I imagine it will have a similar effect on many others watching.
A surprise for season 2:
For fans already eagerly awaiting the next chapter, there’s some exciting news for season 2: Leighton Meester, best known for her role as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, is joining the cast. She’s married to Adam Brody in real life, which adds an extra layer of intrigue to her role. Meester will play Joanne’s sworn enemy from college, a now-famous mommy influencer, which will surely create a lot of tension and drama in the upcoming season. This casting choice is bound to excite fans of both Gossip Girl and Nobody Wants This, as Meester and Brody’s real-life relationship brings an interesting dynamic to the on-screen interactions.
As of now, we don’t have a specific release date for Nobody Wants This season 2, but the addition of Leighton Meester promises to make the next season even more entertaining. The anticipation for what’s to come is definitely building, and I’m personally excited to see how the story continues to unfold!
While waiting for season 2, you can watch season 1 of Nobody Wants This directly on Netflix. And if you’re out of shows to watch, don’t hesitate to check out our TV category for more recommendations!
