New on the red and black platform, Obliterated is the latest captivating series that you won’t want to stop watching. Completely wacky and amidst a political disaster, this new Netflix show is the hilarious series you need for a fun weekend.
An Unconventional Series
Obliterated is the story of A top-tier American government team is assembled to save Las Vegas from a nuclear bomb. After successfully completing their mission, the team decides to celebrate despite the ban on substances, enjoying a well-earned break. But as Ava Winters, the leader, and Maya, the geek, drink excessively and become totally drunk, things start to spiral. Angela Gomez, Trunk, and Chad McKnight, also intoxicated, take MDMA, while Hagerty, the bomb disposal expert, consumes so many substances that he falls into a coma. Meanwhile, Paul Yung, the team’s helicopter pilot, unknowingly eats mushrooms hidden in guacamole by Hagerty. Just then, the government discovers that the bomb the team recovered was actually a decoy. The team is gathered again to find the real bomb. But their condition complicates matters, and they have until 9 AM to save Las Vegas from a nuclear bomb that would destroy everything in its path.
Mixed First Three Episodes
However, a word of caution: While Obliterated is undeniably fun and highly entertaining, it might not be interesting to everyone from the start. As you know, here at Asteria Magazine, we’re two, and I, Atanaria, didn’t particularly enjoy the first three episodes, which are mainly focused on the agents’ drug-induced trip. But I promise, it’s worth it. The series really picks up, and the last two episodes feature one of the biggest plot twists I’ve seen in a while. Normally, I can predict these things a mile away, but this time, Atanaria and I were genuinely surprised. We couldn’t take our eyes off the final episodes.
Obliterated Features Unique Characters
Obliterated is the latest zany and inclusive series. Each character is carefully chosen, and none of them are alike.
- Ava Winters: A member of U.S. intelligence, Ava’s husband died on a mission, and she threw herself into her work, thinking duty came before everything. Very conscientious, she rarely breaks the rules, and this unfortunate adventure may leave its mark on her.
- Chad McKnight: A military man who charges into battle headfirst. He’s supposed to be the bad boy of the group and is also quite funny.
- Trunk: Another soldier, alongside Gomez and McKnight, Trunk is the big guy on the team, known for his strength. He’s also gay, breaking all the stereotypes that films and series often perpetuate.
- Angela Gomez: A lesbian, she’s the sniper of the team, precise in both her work and personal life. She’s the third member of the core team, along with McKnight and Trunk.
- Maya the Geek: As her name suggests, Maya is the geek of the team. She can crack any system and monitor everything. With a huge crush on McKnight, Maya is sensitive, and her emotions will be tested during this mission.
- Paul Yung: The team’s pilot, Paul is a father who is willing to sacrifice his life to save his daughter. He’s always by the book and never abuses substances, but after unknowingly taking mushrooms, he could be in for some trouble.
- Hagerty: The team’s bomb disposal expert, Hagerty fears nothing and lives life to the fullest. After taking too many substances, he falls into an artificial coma. The problem? If he doesn’t wake up in time, and the team successfully finds the real bomb, they won’t have anyone to defuse it.
A Promising Series
The ending is satisfying on its own, and I don’t think Netflix will be making a second season. However, the eight episodes are a real treat, ensuring a good mood throughout. Featuring Shelley Hennig, Nick Zano, Terrence Terrell, Paola Lazaro, Kimi Rutledge, Alyson Gorske, Eugene Kim, and C. Thomas Howell, Obliterated is the latest must-watch series on Netflix.
