After a three-year breakup, God Complex stormed back onto the scene with Salt and Ash, and now, with He Watches In Silence, they’ve doubled down on their signature intensity. Clocking in at just 12 minutes, this EP wastes no time, delivering an unrelenting, riff-laden assault that cements their status as one of the most exciting forces in modern metalcore.

The band’s evolution is striking, blending elements of beatdown, deathcore, and death metal into a razor-sharp sound that feels both feral and calculated. Their ability to transition from groove-laden breakdowns to blast beats at breakneck speed sets them apart from the pack. Every moment feels necessary—no fluff, no filler, just pure, unfiltered aggression.

Produced by Erik Bickerstaffe of Loathe, the EP’s sound is massive. The guitars burn with raw intensity, the bass is thick and sludgy, and the drums hit like a sledgehammer. The balance between vocals and instrumentation is perfect, letting the guttural screams and screeches shine without overpowering the mix.

Each track brings something unique:

  • Salt and Ash lures you in with its deceptive intro before launching into full-scale destruction.
  • Depraved Idol is an absolute standout, featuring some of the most powerful vocals in the band’s discography, particularly the cathartic callout, “PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR SOUL IS / BLOOD IN YOUR EYEEEEESSSS.”
  • Ba’al’s Trick leans harder into death metal influences, with machine-gun kick drums and a groove that demands headbanging.
  • The Judge is a quick but effective gut punch.
  • Flooded Lungs is the EP’s crowning moment—an explosive track filled with relentless riffing, devastating breakdowns, and undeniable energy.

If you’re craving the perfect mix of raw brutality and tight musicianship, He Watches In Silence is a must-listen. In just 12 minutes, God Complex delivers one of the most electrifying metal releases of the year. It’s short, but every second is packed with purpose—and it leaves you hungry for more.

A natural-born writer and poet, Atanaria’s pen dances with a rhythm that only she knows. Her passion for the unspoken, the mysterious, and the forgotten led her to create The Nerdy Virginias—a publication that would later evolve into Asteria, a testament to her love for the hidden corners of culture. Here, she explores the fringes of society, where subcultures thrive away from the blinding lights of the mainstream.
